This project was never going to be a big money maker as the agreed fee was one basket of fresh produce!
However, in our goal to change the world, designing the first Straw Bale building in Manchester, was a start.
This was ING Design's first project in the field of alternative construction techniques. After some research the Nabrascan load bearing method was left to one side. The preferred method being the more traditional method of providing a timber structural frame and using the straw as an infill material.
The proposed location for the straw bale Education Centre had an existing timber pergola which was covered with a tarp to form a covered area.
In true ING Design style the timber pergola was left in place and repurposed as the timber frame for the new building.
